The union team is gathered on the third floor of the UPD building. As we negotiate, some really good university employees are searching for new jobs.
One nagging fact is that while our fellow staff employees are loosing their jobs, no managers are being laid off. Over the last 17 years the number of MPP (manager) employees at SJSU has increased by over 35% while the number of staff members represented by our union has increased by only 5%. Why are 73 staff members being laid off when we are not aware of even one MPP (manager) position being eliminated?
